Chesapeake Heritage Conservancy
Chesapeake Heritage Conservancy is a private, 501(c)3 non-profit corporation established in 1994 to promote and preserve historic Chesapeake Bay watercraft and to educate the public on the heritage of the Chesapeake Bay.
CHC's primary asset to accomplish this mission is Skipjack Martha Lewis. Martha is used to pursue environmental education, preserve the cultural tradition of dredging for oysters, and to educate all about the preservation of the Chesapeake Bay and its tributaries,
CHC relies on revenue generating programs, donations, budget allocations from City of Havre de Grace and Harford County, and corporate sponsorships to operate and maintain the Martha Lewis and provide educational opportunities.. Additional critical support comes from our staff, board of trustees, and dedicated volunteers.
Chesapeake Heritage Conservancy, Inc is governed by a Board of Trustees along with an Executive Director. The Skipjack Martha Lewis is operated by a professional licensed Captain with a well trained volunteer crew. The Martha Lewis maintains a U S Coast Guard Certificate of Inspection (COI) in order to ensure the safety of our crews and passengers.
